Sub Team 3 - KAAA

Project Scope:

Customer Kenya Agribusiness and Agro-industry Alliance is a private organization aimed to be the umbrella organization to organize and align all actors in the agribusiness & agro-industry and provide a unified vision to interact with the government in the creation of policies & standards to the industry within the vision 2030 of Kenya.

KAAA has requested IBM Team to work on 2 agriculture value chains: Dairy and Rice. Both Value Chains would help for Kenya to be food secure country.

Project Scope includes:

  • Conduct Value Chain analysis
  • Analyze agriculture – industry linkage through information. Improve chain performance
  • Recommendation to improve chain performance


Team Member:

Our team has 4 IBMers who are Daniela García from Chile, Mariana Reis from Brasil, Rajesh Ray from India and Yu (Shane) Sun from China.

Tuesday May 6th
Project kickoff at KAAA office. We had our first presentation (the work plan) with representatives of our client - Sam and Wangari. Muriuki (DOT), Mildred (IBM Kenya) and 11 IBMers from all over the world working in other sub-teams joined us for the meeting.





Wednesday May 14th
We went to Githunguri and visited 3 dairy farmers to understand their issues and concerns. Along the way, we had a chance to see how milk was collected in Kenya through small collection centers. We also visited an agriculture training center for the local community.








Monday May 19th
We went to Mwea and visited a successful miller model - the Nice Rice Millers. We also interviewed 2 rice farmers, and finally paid a visit to the Mwea Irrigation Agricultural Development Center.







Thursday May 29th
Our last day at KAAA! Today we delivered our final presentation with the summary of our findings (Kenya dairy and rice value chain analysis) and recommendations to our clients!
